Children wear uniforms to attend school in Haiti. The uniform signifies that the child belongs to a group seeking an education. It symbolizes a commitment to attend school and to participate. In the Haitian culture, the uniform is so critical that most children are denied access to school unless their parents send them to school wearing a uniform.
During these particularly difficult economic times in Haiti, many of the families in the Central Plateau could not afford a uniform and other supplies for school. Their children could not attend the EcoVillage school that we work so hard to keep open. One of our members saw the injustice that children would be denied access to education and decided to take action. He provided the funds which were quickly forwarded to the Principal of the EcoVillage School.
In December 2021, the Director of the EcoVillage Community School, Ramain Exil, distributed uniforms and shoes to 50 needy students who had been unable to attend school. These 50 students gratefully and proudly wear their uniforms and attend classes now. And these students and parents say: Thank you to the Atlanta donors for all that they stand for and continue to do for them. May God continue to bless us.
